Dundalk have confirmed the signing of midfielder Ruaidhri Higgins from Derry City.

The 29 year-old joins the Lilywhites after his contract with the Brandywell club expired at the end of the 2013 season and in doing so will link up with manager Stephen Kenny for the third time.

Higgins began his career at Derry in 2004 and during an initial five-year spell won four EA Sports Cups along with an FAI Cup medal in 2006 and was also part of the sides which finished runners-up in the league in 2005 and 2006.

At the end of the 2009 season, he made the move south to Bohemians and in one season at Dalymount Park, he won a Setanta Cup.

He would eventually to the Brandywell in 2011 where he remained until now picking up a further EA Sports Cup in 2011 and the FAI Cup in 2012.

Higgins is Dundalk's fifth new signing ahead of the new season.
