Mervue United & Longford Town have qualified for the Airtricity League First Division play-off.

The Galway side moved ahead of Waterford United to finish their league campaign in third place after beating Wexford Youths 4-1 at Ferrycarrig Park.

A brace from Gary Shanahan and goals from Stephen Walsh and Tom King gave Mervue the vital victory and they will now take on league runners-up Longford Town in a two-legged play-off.

Longford finished their league campaign in style by beating champions and rivals Athlone Town 2-1 at Lissywollen.

Gary Shaw and Ryan Connolly grabbed the vital goals to defeat Roddy Collins' Athlone.

Waterford United started the evening in the play-off position but a 2-1 defeat away to Cobh scuppered their chances as they finish the league campaign in fourth place.
