St Patrick’s Athletic have made their second mid-season signing with the capture of Philly Hughes on loan from Shelbourne.

The Saints moved for free agent Lorcan Fitzgerald, formerly of Shels, prior to Friday’s 2-0 win over Bray Wanderers, a victory that kept Pat’s top of the Airtricity Premier Division by three points ahead of Derry city.

Liam Buckley has now tied up Hughes in a move that will lessen the wage bill of bottom side Shelbourne.

Hughes scored 18 goals last season for the Tolka Park outfit, following up from notching 27 in 2011.

He has yet to score in 20 games in all competitions so far this year but moves to Richmond Park with a view to adding further firepower to the Inchicore side and add to their chances of clinching the league title.
