Peamount United 8 Castlebar Celtic 1
Peamount United emphasised their control of the Bus Éireann Women’s National League with an uncompromising 8-1 victory over Castlebar Celtic at Greenogue today.
Sara Lawlor and Stephanie Roche each bagged hat-tricks in a comfortable win which began with the Mayo side opening the scoring in the eighth minute when Sarah Rowe scored direct from a corner.
Lawlor levelled for Peamount after racing onto a clever pass from Aine O’Gorman and Lawlor used her pace to good effect twice more before half-time to make it 3-1 to the home side.
Peamount moved into cruise control after the break with Roche showing her quality with an impressive treble.
Julie-Ann Russell and Claire Kinsella also found the target as the Castlebar resistance crumbled.
Unfortunately Russell suffered a quad injury which may impact on her involvement in the
forthcoming senior international tournament with Sue Ronan’s Ireland squad in Cyprus.
DLR Waves 1 Cork Women’s FC 2
Cork Women’s FC picked up their second successive victory as they surprised DLR Waves at Jackson Park.
Amy O’Connor opened the scoring in the 19th minute when she got behind the DLR back four before firing past Waves keeper Linda Meehan.
After a sluggish first half the home side improved after the break and levelled through Marie Gallagher after good work by Sylvia Gee and Rachel Jenkins but Cork rallied again late on the claim the three points when Denise O’Sullivan scored after a rapid counter-attack.
