Sligo Rovers have been dealt a significant blow after top goalscorer Danny North revealed that he will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured cruciate ligament.

North limped out of the Bit O’Red’s Europa League second leg draw with Spartak Trnava at the Showgrounds, just four minutes into the game's second-half on Thursday.

The Airtricity Premier League’s top goalscorer underwent a scan today which revealed the extend of the injury.

“Ruptured my anterior cruciate ligament, out for the season, gotta have an op. Devastated,” the striker said via his twitter account.

North’s injury is a serious one and could keep him out of action for up to six months, depending on the severity.

When contacted, a Sligo Rovers spokesman declined to comment on the news.
