Carrick United bowed out of the FAI Ford Cup gracefully as Sporting Fingal left Tom Drohan Park with a 3-1 victory.

The Sporting opener came as a result of a collision between two Carrick players, which gave Philly Byrne an easy header just after the half hour mark.

Carrick equalised approaching half-time with a contender for goal-of-the-month, as Keith Walsh struck home a 25-yard screamer on the half-volley.

Carrick started the better of the two sides after the restart, but Sporting struck twice in quick succession on the hour to kill off the tie.

First, Peter Hynes finished well from eight yards out and, a minute later, almost straight from the kick-off, Robbie Doyle flicked a neat finish home over the oncoming goalkeeper.
