A goal in each half from Conor Sinnott was enough for Wexford Youths to secure a quarter-final spot in the eircom League Cup with an excellent victory over the Kerry League at Ferrycarrig Park.

Both sides were shy in front of goal during the opening 45 minutes with neither 'keeper having to make a save of note.

The Kerry boys came close to opening the scoring after 25 minutes when Peter McCarthy headed on a James Sugrue free-kick but it went just outside the right hand post.

The home side had to wait until the 35th minute for their first real attempt on goal with Johnny Flynn O'Connor's header pulled from under the crossbar by keeper David Hennessey, while five minutes before the break Christopher Kerins shot low and just wide.

Wexford Youths were coming more into the game and when Shane Brosnan handled a Sinnott cross, referee Paul O'Cashcerra immediately pointed to the spot.

Sinnott made no mistake with his spot-kick four minutes before the break leaving his side with a 1-0 interval lead.

Eight minutes into the second half, Darren Browne missed a great chance as he pulled the ball across goal and wide from five metres.

Five minutes later, he had a cracking 25-metre shot just wide with the 'keeper well beaten.

Doyle denied Kerry with a finger tip save over the bar from sub Glasheen after 70 minutes.

Wexford sealed victory with a beautiful free-kick from Sinnott sailing into the top right-hand corner of the net after 73 minutes.
