Dundalk cemented their place at the top of the SSE Airtricity League table with a 5-1 drubbing of struggling Bray Wanderers at Oriel Park on Sunday evening.

Richie Towell put the home side in front with just 130 seconds on the clock.

Bray goalkeeper Shane Redmond palmed a Kurtis Byrne effort out to the right and the former Celtic midfielder was on hand to finish from a narrow angle.

Goal number two arrived in the 25th minute when Redmond could only push Darren Meenan's piledriver out and Kurtis Byrne was in the right place to prod home from close range.

The first-half finished with the Bray goal under threat again. Richie Towell's pass was lifted brilliantly into Byrne's path by Hoban but his strike whistled just past the post.

The Lilywhites controlled the second-half and Hoban added a third before Byrne took his tally to nine in all competitions with a fabulous strike in the 62nd minute.

Ishmahil Akinade pulled one back for Bray in the 82nd minute when he broke the offside trap but Dundalk responded in style with Hoban finishing off a well worked move a minute later.
