Defender Conor Powell has signed for Norwegian second division side SK Vard Haugesund.

Powell had been on trial for the past week having caught the eye of club representatives in the FIF Pro trial match last month.

He has signed a two-year contract.

Powell was released by Shamrock Rovers and revealed last month at the tournament in Norway that he was prepared to leave the League of Ireland.

"I'm looking to do something abroad and if it's not here, then somewhere else," he told the Irish Independent.

"I've spoken to clubs at home, but I'd like to try something else.

"The League of Ireland has stood still, the good times have passed by. A different experience would be good at this time."
