Sligo Rovers striker Danny North has signed a new contract with the club for the 2014 season.

The Englishman, scorer of 24 goals in 46 appearances for Rovers, including two goals in the FAI Ford Cup final win over Drogheda United this year, extends his career with the Bit o’ Red to a third season.

North said: “I’m very happy to have my future secured.

“I like it here and we’re hoping for a good start to next season. It is looking positive, the gaffer has put together a good group of players already.

“That has to be the case because as he says we want to challenge on all fronts and make that breakthrough in Europe next year if we can as well.

“For a team like Sligo Rovers, it has to be the intention to try to win the league.

“The FAI Cup final was a great way to finish off the year.  All of the players felt that it wouldn’t have been a successful season if we didn’t win the Cup.

“The manner in which we did it was unbelievable.

“I think it will help us going into next year. It is a fresh start as well with some new faces in the squad.”

He added: “I’m buzzing to stay, I have enjoyed my time here and I can’t wait for that first game next season already.”
