Waterford United manager Paul O'Brien tendered his resignation prior to last night's 1-0 defeat to Wexford Youths and, in a statement released this morning, the club revealed it has been accepted.

The club, which currently lies sixth in the Airtricity League First Division, indicated there may be a role for O'Brien in the coaching structure.

An interim replacement for O'Brien, who was in the position for five years, is expected to be announced in the next few days.
