Alan Mathews has resigned as Shelbourne manager, the club have confirmed.
Shels have had a miserable season so far, with 1 win in 13 Airtricity Premier Division matches.
Mathews has been under significant pressure in recent weeks with fans calling for his departure as they slumped to the bottom of the table.
A club statement read: "Alan Mathews has today tendered his resignation as manager of Shelbourne FC.
"The club's board of Management wishes to thank Alan for his tireless work on the club's behalf and in particular for securing the return of the club to the Premier Division.
"The board will now set about identifying a suitable replacement and in the interim Kevin Doherty will take over management of the team."
Shels play St Patrick's Athletic tomorrow night in Tolka Park, with Shamrock Rovers, Derry City and Sligo Rovers also among their next five matches in the league in a daunting run of games for the incoming boss.
