Roddy Collins has been named as the new manager of Airtricity First Division side Athlone Town.

He takes over from Padraig Moran who was interim boss for part of last season.

Collins, who previously played for the midlands club, is back in management after Monaghan United's exit form the Premier Division last June.

The Dubliner achieved promotion with the Mons and he will no doubt be expected to achieve a similar return with the midlanders.

Speaking on the appointment, Athlone Town chairman John Hayden stated “We are delighted to appoint Roddy early in the off-season as it allows him time to get to know the club, the region and importantly, time to build a competitive squad.

"It’s a significant statement of intent by Athlone Town to attract a manager of Roddy’s experience and profile.”

Collins will be formally presented to the media and Athlone  suppoters at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel at midday on Friday.
