Sligo Rovers collected three points against a battle-harded Derry City side with Mark Quigley's winning strike giving the Bit O' Red a 2-1 victory.

Rovers took the lead through David Cawley, before David McDaid levelled things.

But Quigley was smashed home the winner from six yards on 86 minutes.

Sligo had free-scoring Danny North misses through suspension with Mark Quigley coming in up front, but on the plus side centre-back Jason McGuinness came in for Iarfhlaith Davoren, who dropped to the bench.

Rovers went close after just three minutes when Ross Gaynor's in-swinging corner from the right found Mark Quigley, but his close range glancing header was well wide.

Just before the half-hour mark Gaynor was unlucky when his speculative shot from a tight angle came back off the post.

Rovers were forced into a change on 41 minutes when recent signing Seamus Conneely had to replace the injury Alan Keane.

The Brandywell men went close just before the break when Dermot McCaffrey's centre found Ruaidhri Higgins, but the midfielder's header from just inside the box flew over.

Sligo dominated things in the first half but without North up front they lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Doherty keep his side on level terms on 52 minutes when Mark Quigley's left wing curling effort from just outside the box, was heading to for the top corner but for Doherty's unbelievable save, tipping the ball over.

The deadlock was broke on 55 minutes when David Cawley's outstanding 25 yard strike seem to catch out a flat footed Doherty and flew into the net.

A fantastic pass by Conor Murphy on 65 minutes found David McDaid who ghosted in behind the Sligo defence before coolly lifting the ball over the out-rushing Rogers.

Rovers netted the winner on 86 minutes when the home side failed to clear the danger and the alert Mark Quigley was on hand to fire home the winner.
