Cork City have signed Northampton Town’s Tadhg Purcell on loan until the end of June.

The 27-year-old forward began his career with UCD, and had a brief spell with Kilkenny City before signing for Shamrock Rovers.

He spent three years with Rovers before moving cross-channel to play for Darlington, where he enjoyed a prolific goal scoring run.

Purcell then signed for Northampton Town in June 2010, but an injury ruled him out for the 2010-11 season.

He had a further loan spell with Darlington after returning from injury, and also made a number of appearances for Northampton, before agreeing on this return to Ireland.

Cork City manager Tommy Dunne told CorkCityFC.net: “Tadhg will be coming in next week.

“Obviously we were looking to add another striker to the squad as we were a bit thin up top.

“He is a player who is experienced in the League of Ireland and has also played cross-channel as well.

“He is a good finisher and he gives us another option up front, so I am pleased to have signed him.”
