Derry City have announced that Declan Devine will take over as manager ahead of the 2012 Airtricity League season.

Former City player and Finn Harps boss Paul Hegarty will assist Devine, who has been handed a two-year contract at the Brandywell.

Devine served alongside former boss Stephen Kenny and was widely expected to join him at new club Shamrock Rovers with Willie McStay favourite to land the manager’s job.

However, the Candystripes unveiled Devine as Kenny’s successor at a press conference on Friday evening.
