Gillespie makes Longford debut

Former Northern Ireland international Keith Gillespie made his first Airtricity League appearance when he came on as a sub for Longford Town in their 2-0 victory over Athlone Town on Saturday.
There was much anticipation at Flancare Park ahead of the midlands derby and the home crowd had to wait until the 58th minute for Gillespie’s introduction. He came on a sub for the impressive Austin Skelly, who scored Longford’s second goal of the game.
Indeed, the home side were well their victory and they went ahead on four minutes when a Jacque Morley was flapped at by Athlone goalkeeper Michael Schlingermann and the ball curled into the net. Skelly doubled the advantage on 12 minutes, scoring from close range.
The three points sees Longford move up to second in the Airtricity First Division table.
