Cork City scored four goals for the first time this season when they kept themselves battling for a European spot following this exciting win over Galway at Turners Cross.

The visitors led through a Kevin Long own goal after just four minutes, before Cork scored a deserved equaliser from Davin O'Neill his first for the club.

Billy Dennehy shot Cork ahead just after the hour with Gareth Cambrige streching their lead minutes later. Alan Murphy pulled a goal back, but Paul Doolin's side guaranteed their win with another O'Neill strike late on.

Both sides made changes form their last winning outings,Cork were without the suspended Fahrudin Kuduzovic, his place in attack going to the Latvian striker Guntars Siligailis which was their one change from the 1-0 Setanta Cup win over Cliftonville.

Galway started with Shane Fitzgerald in midfield, he retained his place having come on for the injured Dave Cooke at half time in their impressive 3-1 midweek win against Derry City at the Brandywell.

The visitors had hoped to follow on that fine away victory, and they got the ideal start when they scored through an unfortunate own goal from young Cork defender Kevin Long.

A long ball from former Cork player Sean Kelly bounced outside the home penalty area, with defender Long heading over his own advancing goalkeeper Mark McNulty for a fourth minute lead goal for the visitors.

Paul Doolin's side were quick to respond and they created a number of chances before they scored a deserved equaliser.Left winger Billy Dennehy was first to go close when hs powerful low shot was brilliantly blocked by Galway goalkeeper Barry Ryan.

Moments later Gareth Camnridge had a Cork shot across goal whch beat the diving goalkeeper and rolled inches wide before they were level after 19 minutes.

Cork defender Greg O'Halloran was up in attack and had an overhead kick taken off the goalline, but the ball broke on the edge of the penalty area, from where Davin O'Neill curled a brilliant shot to the roof of the net for his first league goal for the club.

The home team continued to dominate and create chances, but they had to wait until just after the hour mark to take the lead. O'Halloran was again involved, sending over a fine centre from the right wing for Billy Dennehy to thump home a fine goal at the far post.

Cork streched their lead four minutes later when O'Neill headed down in the penalty area for Gareth Cambridge to sweep home his first league goal for the club.

But Galway got themselves back into the game with a fine second goal after 75 minutes, Alan Murphy drove home a shot from 15 yards when the ball fell to him in the penalty area.

Cork who had scored only eight home league goals all season in twelve matches made iy four on the night, when former Cobh Ramblers striker Davin O'Neill struck a shot in off the hands of Barry Ryan on 83 minutes.
