Bohemians title challenge stayed on course at Richmond Park as they overcame the challenge of cross-city rivals St Patrick’s Athletic.
Ken Oman did the damage with a double for the Gypsies. On 28 minutes he stuck a head in amongst the mass of bodies awaiting Brian Shelley’s cross and powered the ball into the Inchicore end goal. He completed his brace in the 70th, flicking in Joseph Ndo’s corner at Gary Rogers’ near post.
Pat’s had a flying start with David Partridge heading over on seven minutes. Glen Fitzpatrick played up front and looked eager, chasing everything sent up to him. He was involved in the build up on 20 when Ryan Guy sent an inch-perfect cross into the area but it was too high for the inrushing Bobby Ryan.
Oman blasted high and wide for Bohs on 22 minutes but made no mistake with the opener on 28 when Shelley swung the ball in following Keegan’s corner.
Pat’s fought back and Ryan shot over the top on 34 after Jamie Harris had headed down an Alan Cawley corner from the right. Bohs stood firm and held their advantage going into the break.
There was plenty of action at both ends as the second half progressed with Glen Crowe going close for Bohs on 56 and Damien Lynch causing problems for the Bohs defence a minute later.
Chasing a goal, Pat’s boss Jeff Kenna made a double substitution on 62, with the introduction of Mark Quigley and Gary Dempsey. Both got stuck in as Pat’s had a series of attacks on Brian Murphy’s goal.
However it was Bohs who would find the net again when Oman flicked in Ndo’s corner on 70 minutes. It could have been three on 81 when Killian Brennan latched on to Ndo’s sweet cross but Brennan fired high over the goal.
