Shane Barrett’s first goal since 2006 secured a hard-fought but fully deserved victory over St Patrick's Athletic which lifts Drogheda United off the bottom of the table.
After a poor first half-hour, Barrett latched onto Jamie Duffy’s pass and curled a superb strike beyond Gary Rogers. The Pat’s keeper then produced superb saves to deny Barrett and James Chambers.
A visibly tiring Drogheda spent most of the second half on the defensive, but Jamie Harris headed Pat’s two best chances wide and Drogs keeper Paul Skinner prevented an Alan McNally own goal with a fine tip-over save.
