First Division league leaders Shelbourne suffered a surprise defeat against Longford Town in this highly entertaining encounter at Flancare Park with Alan Lynch and Darren McKenna scoring the crucial goals in the first half for the home side.
After Shels were most unlucky not to take the lead when Anthony Flood hit the post with a cracking long range shot in the 22nd minute, Longford launched an immediate counter attack to break the deadlock with Alan Lynch finding the back of the net following a sweeping move.
The Town then grabbed a second goal in the 26th minute when their leading scorer Darren McKenna hit the target.
And while Shels dominated the second half in a frantic attempt to get something from this game, a Robbie Hedderman header against the post in the 68th minute was the closest they came to pulling a goal back.
