Longford Town 0-2 Waterford United

The battle of last season’s relegated sides never lived up to the pre match billing at Flancare Park on Saturday night as both Longford and Waterford failed to inspire in the summer sunshine.
That been said the visitors were the better side, much more clinical in the final third of the pitch, and were well worth their victory.
The Blues, despite their lack of first half possession, went close to scoring through both Vinnie Sullivan and Willie John Kiely before the break.
However, both made amends for their first half misses with early second half goals. Kiely fired his side in front after 48 minutes, latching onto Michael Foley’s neat pass before lobbing home keeper, Neil Gallagher.
And Sullivan doubled their advantage just 5 minutes later when his speculative shot was not dealt with properly by Gallagher and the goal ensured a victory that moves Waterford to within one point of joint table toppers Shelbourne and Dundalk.
