Setanta Sports Cup holders Drogheda United sent a clear message of intent to their rivals in this year’s competition after recording an impressive 4-0 victory against a thoroughly outclassed Dungannon Swifts side.

Tony Grant got the ball rolling for the Premier Division champions after just four minutes when he fired past Dwayne Nelson in the Dungannon goal.

Graham Gartland added a second on 35 minutes when he headed home a cross from the left wing.

The Swifts rallied after the restart, but an Adam McMinn own goal after 63 minutes ended the tie as a contest.

Declan O’Brien added to the hosts’ woes with a superb fourth for a rampant Drogs outfit five minutes from time.
