Shamrock Rovers have signed versatile midfielder Stephen Rice from Bohemians.

Rice, 23, signs from Rovers' Dublin rivals on a two-year contract.

Rovers boss Pat Scully said: 'I have tried to sign Stephen before now and not been successful in getting the move to happen so I am particularly happy to now have captured his signature.'

Rice said: 'Shamrock Rovers is a huge club and I am looking forward to a new challenge. Twenty minutes into my meeting with Pat Scully I knew that the move was the right one for me and the ambition of the manager and the club was hugely appealing.

'I am a Southside lad (from Crumlin) and know what Rovers means as a lot of my friends and neighbours are Rovers fans. The Rovers fans are something else and I look forward to playing for the club.'
