Kilkenny showed real character at Buckley Park where they conceded a first minute goal, fell 3-1 behind and then stormed back to claim a share of the spoils.
Eoin Kavanagh fired the visitors in front after one minute and 14 seconds but seven minutes from the break, Kevin Walsh stabbed home an equaliser for the Cats.
In a cracking second half, the Thoroughbreds flashed in front after 57 minutes when Philly Gorman crossed from the right and the unmarked Padraig Amond headed home.
It looked to be done and dusted on the hour when Andrew Stapleton fired home a wonderful goal but within a minute there was only a goal between the sides when Michael Comerford rifled to the roof of the net from 35 yards.
To complete a great recovery, substitute Ted O'Connor volleyed home in the 79th minute after Walsh headed a Comerford corner across goal.
