Pat Fenlon, who resigned as coach of Shelbourne on Tuesday, has been linked to the vacant position at Derry City.
Fenlon is the firm favourite to fill the vacancy at the FAI Cup Champions created by the departure of Stephen Kenny for Dunfermline Athletic.
His successful track record, including five eircom League titles in his five-year tenure at Tolka Park make him an attractive possibility for the Candystripes.
Fenlon is expected to meet with Derry City executives this afternoon to discuss his possible recruitment as their new boss.
The Shelbourne manager is known to have been severely frustrated at Shelbourne in recent times, certainly with the financial crisis that grips the club.
