Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane will miss his country's summer friendlies with England and Georgia due to club commitments with LA Galaxy.

Keane will miss both the long awaited encounter with England at Wembley on 29 May and the home clash with Georgia on 2 June as his club have refused to release him.

Both games fall outside the FIFA international window and while the player is understood to have been keen to travel for the fixtures, he will be unable to do so because of club matches in the US.

The striker was named in Giovanni Trapattoni's original 28-man squad, despite uncertainty over his availability. He has only recently returned to club action after recovering from an ankle injury and LA Galaxy are keen to hold onto their star player.

Keane will now join up with the squad ahead of the World Cup qualification match in Dublin against the Faroe Islands on 7 June and the friendly against Spain in New York.
