Giovanni Trapattoni has confirmed John O’Shea will captain the Republic of Ireland in Wednesday’s friendly with Serbia in Belgrade after naming his side for the game this evening.

O’Shea forms part of a back four with Paul McShane, Darren O’Dea and Stephen Kelly in a versatile defence.

James McCarthy is handed a starting role in midfield, partnered by Glenn Whelan, with Aiden McGeady and James McClean on the wings.
