Former St Patrick's Athletic manager Johnny McDonnell has become the assistant manager of the Faroe Islands.

McDonnell links up with former Republic of Ireland boss Brian Kerr, who has been in charge of the Faroes for the last twelve months.

McDonnell captained St Pat's to the league title in 1996 when Brian Kerr was manager of the Inchicore club, and now the two will work together for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying campaign which kicks off for the Faroes in Group C in August against Estonia.
