Robbie Keane burst on to the scene as a 17-year-old for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1997.
Gordon Strachan made him the most expensive teenager when he brought him to Coventry City for £6m in 1999.
His form at Coventry convinced Italian giants Inter Milan to part with £13m for the Tallaght man in 2000.
But the Italian Job turned sour, and Keane was forced down the pecking order by the likes of Ivan Zamorano, Christian Vieri, Hakan Sukur and a then-slim Ronaldo.
David O'Leary added Keane to his group of 'kids' on a loan deal just four months after his move to Italy.
Although the move was made permanent in the summer of 2001, Keane suffered a loss of form and was soon on the road again.
The move south to Tottenham was the making of Keane and he quickly became a fans' favourite at White Hart Lane.
He would go on to score 80 goals for the London club in 197 appearances.
In his final two seasons at Spurs he struck up a lethal strike partnership with Bulgarian forward Dimitar Berbatov.
He remains one of the most popular players amongst fellow professionals and fans, at home and abroad.
Finally, after ten years in the professional game, Keane got his hands on silverware in February 2008 as Spurs won the Carling Cup by beating Chelsea at Wembley.
On the international front, early promise has been fulfilled and Keane is now the Republic of Ireland's record goalscorer with 33 goals.
Rep of Ireland will also benefit as Keane gets Champions League experience at Anfield.
