David Beckham will not make his Paris St Germain debut in tomorrow night's Ligue 1 game against Sochaux, manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed.
The 37-year-old former England captain met his new team-mates on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League last-16 tie at Valencia, before taking part in his first training session in the French capital on Wednesday.
There had been speculation Beckham could make his first appearance in a PSG shirt tomorrow, but Ancelotti said at his pre-match press conference today that he was not ready and would likely make his bow in next weekend's blockbuster clash with Marseille at the Parc des Princes.
Asked whether the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid man would be in the group to face Sochaux, Ancelotti said on www.psg.fr: "No. David still needs work. He needs a week of extra work to be ready next week against Marseille.
"He will bring us his quality, experience and professionalism. This is what is expected of him."
Ancelotti sought to play down the effect of Beckham's arrival on the league leaders as they prepared for an important game against relegation-threatened Sochaux.
"It is normal that David Beckham monopolises the attention of the media, but the talk at the training centre is different," the Italian said.
"We are focused on preparing for the next match against Sochaux. It will be a complicated match.
"We want to continue to string good performances together in the league and in all competitions."
He added: "Everybody knows this is a very important game. We are six points ahead and we want to keep this margin.
"We are focused on tomorrow's game. Sochaux are a good team that plays good, dynamic football. I do not think they will stick to defence - they will play to win."
