Four League of Ireland clubs have been awarded UEFA licences by the Football Association of Ireland’s Club Licensing Committee for the 2009/2010 UEFA Club Competition season.

Bohemian FC have been rewarded for their all-conquering double-winning season and will be entered in the Champions League, while St Patrick’s Athletic, Derry City and Sligo Rovers have all been given licences to participate in the Europa League, formerly the UEFA Cup.

All licences are awarded subject to the grounds meeting the criteria for a UEFA Category 2 stadium.

As the Showgrounds in Sligo has not been used in UEFA competition since the new UEFA regulation came into force two years ago, a delegate from UEFA will visit Sligo in early May to determine its compliance.
