Joe Allen said Liverpool's young players showed their worth after the 4-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at Lansdowne Road this evening.

The Reds cruised to victory despite fielding an experimental side made up of fringe and youth players in this friendly game.

Allen was one of a handful of first-teamers in the squad and helped the English side to the win.

He said: "It was a great opportunity for our young players to show what they can do. We had a game here in the summer, which gave us a taste of it, but it’s nice to come over here and experience it once again.

"We obviously put on a bit of a show for them and got the four goals.

"We had to go out there and make sure we were 100% committed and we wanted to make sure with so much support coming to see us that we weren’t complacent in our approach, which I don’t think we were."

Allen added that Liverpool are already excited about next season despite agonisingly missing out on the Premier League title last week, believing they are united in their approach for the 2014/2015 campaign.

"We’ve had that disappointment. We are already looking forward to kickstarting next season. First and foremost we were looking forward to a bit of rest.

"We’ll take confidence from this season.

"How much we’ve moved on is testament to how much work the lads have put in."
