Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne was sent off for QPR in the Sky Bet Championship last night.

The Rs fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Sheffield Wednesday and now lie 10 points off an automatic promotion place.

Dunne was dismissed in the 33rd minute for a professional foul on fellow Ireland international Leon Best, who is on loan at Hillsborough from Blackburn.

Best, 27, got on the score sheet himself six minutes into the second half.

The former Newcastle and Coventry striker has been capped seven times for Ireland and was last called-up to the squad for the Euro 2012 play-off games against Estonia but had to withdraw due to injury.

Elsewhere, Robbie Keane scored twice for LA Galaxy but the MLS side crashed out of the Concacaf Champions League after a 4-2 defeat to Club Tijuana in Mexico.

Speaking after the defeat, the Ireland captain said: "We can’t come to Mexico and expect an easy ride because all the games are going to be difficult."
