Clement Grenier looks set to stay with Lyon

Newcastle target Clement Grenier has ruled out a deadline-day move to St James' Park, his agent said on Thursday night.

A bid from Newcastle for Lyon midfielder Grenier has remained on the table as the Magpies pursue a replacement for Yohan Cabaye, who joined Paris St Germain this week.

But agent Frederic Guerra has announced Grenier will stay with his French club.

He told French sport website Le 10 Sport: "It's not easy to say no to a big club like Newcastle, but with Clement we have finally decided to stay at Lyon.

"Six months out from the World Cup, is a hasty departure just days before the end of the transfer market a good option? It's not a certainty. Lyon are starting to find their true colours and Clement didn't want to leave the club during the season.

"The conditions of his departure weren't creating a favourable context for his development. Clement would be arriving at Newcastle not as Clement Grenier but as a replacement for Yohan Cabaye.

"I have the greatest respect for the quality of player that Cabaye is, deserving of everything that is said about him. However, as Clement Grenier's agent I am obliged to say: is Clement worth just half what Yohan Cabaye is?

"Above all the reasons which have led us to decline the offer from Newcastle, the conditions of the deal didn't seem fair to Clement."

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted Italy international Dani Osvaldo may be on his way out of the club.

Osvaldo is serving a two-week club suspension for an altercation with Jose Fonte in training and looks all-but certain to leave before Friday's transfer deadline with Juventus front-runners ahead of Inter Milan and Seville.

Pochettino said "anything is possible" when asked about a move before the transfer deadline.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has strengthened his squad further with Argentina international striker Ignacio Scocco.

QPR's Moroccan midfielder Adel Taarabt was paraded in AC Milan colours after agreeing a loan move to the San Siro, ahead of a possible permanent move in the summer.

Former Everton defender Joseph Yobo is heading back to the Premier League after making a loan switch from Fenerbahce to Norwich.

Fulham have completed the loan signing of Stuttgart midfielder William Kvist, with the Denmark international moving to Craven Cottage until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has been at Stuttgart for two-and-a-half years after moving to the Bundesliga outfit from FC Copenhagen and will now part of Rene Meulensteen's squad as the Dutchman looks to keep Fulham in the top flight.
