Luis Suárez and Patrice Evra could be forced to shake hands, assuming both are selected, before the Manchester United v Liverpool clash at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Suárez has just returned from his eight-match ban for racially abusing the Manchester United defender at Anfield on 15 October last.
The Premier League have confirmed the pre-match handshake will go ahead.
The stance comes after the FA postponed the handshake before Chelsea's tie with QPR due to tensions between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand.
Saturday’s game will have a global audience, with 212 countries screening the fixture live. As a result both clubs have been reminded of their ambassadorial responsibilities.
