Kevin Doyle believes he got the perfect grounding at Cork to prepare him for the life in the Premier League with Reading

Irish international striker Kevin Doyle believes his experiences in the eircom League of Ireland with Cork City provided the perfect preparation for what lay ahead of him following his move from Turner's Cross to Reading in the summer of 2005.

Speaking at the launch of EA Sports' FIFA 08 computer game, Doyle revealed: 'My experiences in the league got me massively prepared for the switch to Reading. I wouldn't have been able to do it without it. I was a full-time player at Cork, which they didn't realise over here, and I had played in front of big crowds at Cork in big games.

'I also had all the papers and radio side of things too so that helped me a lot when I came over. Cork's probably the biggest club in Ireland with a lot of pressure when you're playing in front of 5 or 6,000 fans each week and there was also a lot of media work involved. Everyone also knows how you do and what you do so that got me used to all that and it made it a lot easier for me to settle in at Reading.'
