Hull City are vying for the signature of Irish and Barnsley midfielder Stephen McPhail.
Tigers manager and English Under-21 boss Peter Taylor confirmed that they were looking at the 25-year-old who made his debut for Ireland against Scotland in 2000.
McPhail has been mulling over signing a contract extension with Barnsley despite helping the Tykes to promotion to the Championships via the play offs.
On Monday last Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock ruled the club out of the chase for McPhail despite expressing and initial interest in the former Leeds United ace. "He's a good player but I need a different type of midfielder", said Sturrock.
