Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce could hand a Premiership debut to Neil Kilkenny

Birmingham City manager boss Steve Bruce is contemplating giving a Premiership debut to rookie Neil Kilkenny.

Bruce is without the suspended Nicky Butt plus the injured quintet of Muzzy Izzet, Stephen Clemence, Jiri Jarosik, David Dunn and Mehdi Nafti.

Mikael Forssell is looking to build upon his two Carling Cup goals against Scunthorpe United after being eased back into action following knee surgery last season.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will be without Mohamed Sissoko as he has a thigh strain.

Dietmar Hamann and Bolo Zenden are both pushing for a return to a team aiming to improve on one league goal in four games.

Striker Fernando Morientes has returned to training after a hamstring injury but the match at St Andrews may have come too soon for him.

Birmingham squad: Maik Taylor, Melchiot, Cunningham, Upson, Clapham, Pennant, Johnson, Kilkenny, Tebily, Gray, Lazaridis, Heskey, Forssell, Pandiani, Vaesen, Martin Taylor, Till, Painter.

Liverpool: (Probable squad): Reina, Finnan, Hyppia, Carragher, Warnock, Sinama-Pongolle, Gerrard, Alonso, Riise, Luis Garcia, Hamann, Zenden, Crouch, Carson, Josemi, Morientes, Cisse, Traore.
