The Premier League are to consult both Arsenal and Chelsea on the Ashley Cole controversy, despite the absence of an official complaint from the Gunners.
Reports have pointed to an illegal approach by Chelsea for the Arsenal and England full-back, claiming Blues boss Jose Mourinho and chief executive Peter Kenyon met Cole at a London hotel last week.
Chelsea have refused to deny the claims, while Arsenal continue to study the evidence.
But the Premier League have decided to make initial inquiries.
Chairman Richard Scudamore told The Sun: "We are talking to both clubs to decide how to proceed."
Meanwhile, Cole has attempted to distance himself from the controversy.
The 24-year-old told the club's official website, www.arsenal.com: "I'm under contract here for another two years so I just want to get back to playing football and trying to win the league."
