Sunderland manager Roy Keane is making a last-minute effort to boost his squad before the start of the new Premiership season on Saturday.
Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been given permission to hold talks with the Black Cats and Aston Villa. The netminder is valued at over €13 million.
Keane has confirmed the club have made a bid for Tottenham striker Mido, who would cost the Black Cats €9 million.
The former Irish international told the Daily Express: 'He is a player I would like to bring to this club.
'All I want is the opportunity to speak to the lad. If it doesn't work out then we will move on.'
The 24-year-old Egyptian striker had been set to complete a move to Birmingham City, but that deal subsequently fell through.
