Lyon have accepted the checks being carried out by the French online gaming authority into their 7-1 Champions League victory away to Dinamo Zagreb last night.

The Ligue 1 side scored six times in the second half as they came from 1-0 down to incredibly book their place in the knock-out stage.

Lyon needed to win, Ajax to lose to Real Madrid and a seven-goal swing in their favour to progress, and achieved it with the Amsterdammers losing 3-0.

The club released a statement today saying they understood the checks by the regulatory authority for online games (ARJEL) were necessary in the case of such an "atypical" result.

The statement on their official website read: "Lyon have become aware of the checks being carried out this morning by ARJEL, which fit with the procedures of the agency responsible for the regulation of online gaming.

"The club agree totally that action should be taken when a result is considered atypical."

Ajax coach Frank de Boer claimed UEFA should investigate the Lyon match, if it was suspected anything unusual had gone on.

"If there was something unusual, UEFA should investigate what happened in Zagreb," De Boer was quoted as saying by ESPN Soccernet.

De Boer admitted the dramatic turnaround in the group was stuff of nightmares.

"This comes as a blow. This is the scenario you imagine in your worst dreams," he said.
