WATCH LIVE HERE.

1844 Thanks for reading, folks. It may not have been vintage, but it was dramatic to beat the band.

A short report on the match is live here, with a full report to follow shortly.

Well done Sligo Rovers. Hard luck Shelbourne; as a man once said, 'Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.'

See y'after.

1835 Paul McGarry has emailed to say: Very sad.The rules of the game clearly state the goalkeeper is not allowed to move until the ball is kicked. Yet no one on the pitch seemed to object. The Sligo goalkeeper was off his line, by a good margin. At the very least those penalties should have been re-taken. Very disappointing.

It's the big debate following those penalties - agreed.

1826 Richie Ryan lifts the FAI Cup and Sligo are crowned champions for the fourth time in their history; the Bit O' Red's previous titles came in 1983, 1994 and 2010. They have also been runners-up six times.

1824 Sligo hear the roar of their crowd as they are invited to head up and collect their medals and the cup.

1823 The Shelbourne boys are heading up to the stands to claim their runners-up medals. They were brave and proud today. A dejected looking Alan Mathews is the last man to collect his medal.

1819 Joe from Monaghan has emailed to say: Keeper must be on line as ball was struck. Kelly was maybe half a metre off line when ball was kicked.

Lots of voices saying the same thing here in RTÉ Joe.

1818 Ciaran Kelly is once more the hero with two penalty saves to add to his four from last year. The Bit O' Red are back-to-back FAI Cup winners.

1815 SLIGO ROVERS WIN THE FAI CUP FINAL 4-1 ON PENALTIES.

Sligo Rovers: OOOO
Shelbourne: OXX
O = goal; X = miss.

1814 Cretaro scores in the bottom-right corner and wins it for Sligo.

1814 Kelly saves from Collie James. Shels are surely done for.

1813 Alan Keane smacks his penalty to the top-left corner.

1812 Dawson misses for Shelbourne. He went down the middle and Kelly saved.

1812 Richie Ryan scores for Sligo.

1812 Bermingham makes it 1-1 for Shels.

1810 Eoin Doyle smacks his penalty to the top-right corner of the goal for Sligo.

1807 For the second year running Sligo will end their season with an FAI Cup final penalty shoot-out. Can Kelly reproduce his heroics in the Sligo nets?

1806 FULL-TIME AFTER EXTRA-TIME: SHELS 1-1 SLIGO RVS.

71 mins Davoren tries to find Greene out left. But the pass is poor and goes for a Shels throw.

70 mins A long ball from Ryan is cut out by Shels, but Paisley then gives it away to Blinkhorn. The attacker takes an age to unleash the shot and when he does it's too late and Shels block the effort on goal.

48 mins SLIGO ROVERS - GOAL - DAVOREN.

Sligo get the ball to the Shels box and the Dublin team fail to clear it properly. It is played to Davoren on the left side of the penalty area. He smacks it low and hard and inexplicably Delany allows the ball to fly by him on his near post. Awful goalkeeping. The teams are level.

Shelbourne 1-1 Sligo Rovers.

46 mins Cassidy plays a long ball to the Sligo box, nodody can get on the end of it and Russell clears for Sligo.

1637 Giovanni Trapattoni has been spotted taking his seat for the second half in the Aviva.

1628 Richie Sadlier and Kenny Cunningham both feel that the referee was wrong to send off Clancy. They both feel there was not enough evidence that Clancy was diving in the box. It's changed the course of the game and was a massive and very rash decision.

Shels will have to dig deep. They are full value for their half-time lead though - Sligo will have to be far more clinical to win this.

1621 HALF-TIME: SHELBOURNE 1-0 SLIGO ROVERS.

45+1 mins Davoren tries to cross from the left - the ball is poor.

Another ball from the left by Greene to Russell. Right in front of goal, Russell heads over from a yard out! What a chance, the cross was just inches too high and he couldn't get under it. The header ends up flying over the bar. That's the last action of the half.

39 mins Shels break up the left and lose it. Sligo break up the same wing and win a throw-in. An early ball into the box from Davoren is cut out by Paisley.

39 mins That's turned the game on its head. It did look a dive though.

Clancy is booked for a foul on halfway. First yellow card of the match. Sligo can't use it and Shels break up the left.

The ball is played to Clancy and he breaks in on goal. But as he is about to pull the trigger, he is nudged in the back. He goes down like a sack of spuds and the referee books him again. A second yellow in two minutes and he's off. Red card for Clancy.

Shels' Clancy hits the post following a great cross in from the right. Clancy got the header just right, but the ball hit the woodwork and rebounded out.

27 mins Russell runs at the Shels defence, but Paisley makes a superb sliding tackle to end the chance.

26 mins Best attack of the game as Doyle breaks up the left, he tries to get a shot at goal but Boyle makes a firm tackle to stop him. Doyle used great pace to get away from the Shels defence, but he should have fired at goal earlier.

24 mins McGuinness hits another long ball - too hard again and over the deadball line.

22 mins Sligo play a long ball over the top and it again is hit too hard and too firm. They need to be far more precise here to get something going.

20 mins Shels play a long ball, which is cut out by the Sligo defence. Sligo attack with Russell and Dylan linking up. Ventre acts as the third part of triangle as Sligo go up the right, but a wayward pass ends the attack. Good movement, bad passing.

19 mins Ventre tries a long-range effort on the Shels goal. It's a snatching shot and goes well wide. Hurried stuff from Sligo.

19 mins Shels are on top here. Sligo can't get a handle on the packed Shels midfield at all so far.

18 mins Cassidy plays a free-kick to the Sligo box. It falls to Clancy who goes for goal - the shot is high and wide.

12 mins The pace has settled down now and both sides are looking to find some patterns of play.

11 mins Sligo go up the left with Russell and Ryan but Shels cut it out. Shels can't retain possession and lose it, but Sligo can't do much with it. Shels break with McGill up the right and Davoren cuts out the danger.

10 mins A mistake from the Sligo defence allows Clancy in on goal, he wates the chance as the Sligo defence close him down.

9 mins Sligo started much the stronger, but Shels have worked their way back into it well.

8 mins McGuinness plays a poor clearance and Shels intercepts and get the ball to Hughes. He fires on goal, but McGuinness gets his body in the way to concede a corner. The corner comes back to Clancy - he smacks a shot on goal, but it goes well wide.

7 mins Sligo have had lots of possession out wide, but the final balls have been poor.

6 mins Sullivan plays a long ball to the Sligo box - it's cut out. Sligo break up the right. Russell tries to find Doyle, but the cross is cut out by Shels.

5 mins McGill attempts to burst up the right for Shels but loses control of the ball as it runs away from him. Shels win it back and play a long ball up the right, but it goes to touch.

4 mins Sullivan attacks down the left, but loses possession and knocks the ball out for a Sligo throw.

3 mins Shels try to launch an attack but Sligo break it up and attack up the left. The cross from far left is poor and goes for a goal kick to Shels.

2 mins It's taken short and the effort pulled across the face of goal by Sligo. Ryan tries to play a through ball for Russell, but it runs out for a goal kick.

1 min John Russell starts the game for Sligo. Sligo win a corner on the right.
