Rooney is fit, insists Fergie

Manchester Untied boss Sir Alex Ferguson has played down fears over the fitness of his star striker, Wayne Rooney.

The 24-year-old failed to fire during England's ill-fated World Cup campaign, sparking suggestions he may have been carrying an injury.

But Ferguson is quoted in The Mail on Sunday as saying: 'There is nothing wrong with the lad or his fitness.

'He's relaxing on holiday in Barbados and I expect him to come back refreshed for the new season.'
