Sligo and Chris Turner under investigation

Sligo Rovers and Chris Turner are under investigation by the director of the League of Ireland as the midfielder's future was finally resolved by Disputes Resolution Chamber (DRC) in Dublin today.

Turner joined Sligo last November, but on a form that proved to be invalid, and the former Northern Ireland under-21 international then agreed to move to Shamrock Rovers.

Sligo disputed the switch, claiming their deal with Turner was still legal, and the FAI withheld his registration pending the outcome of a hearing.

The DRC ruled that neither contract is valid and that Turner is a free agent, but that he will only be able to register with a new side when he returns a €5,000 payment made to him by Sligo.

That leaves the former Dundalk player free to join Shamrock Rovers, providing Sligo do not object to the judgement by the DRC in the next 10 days.

However, both Turner and Sligo are under investigation by the league for the way their original agreement was carried out and could face penalties if found guilty of any breach of league rules.
