French fills vacant post at Mervue

Mervue United have appointed Tom French as their new manager following the departure of Johnny Glynn, who tendered his resignation to the board on Monday.

French will take up the post immediately and will be assisted by Brendan O'Connor.

A statement released by the Galway club said: 'The club is delighted that Tom has agreed to take over as manager of the First Division squad and is looking forward to working with him for the coming season.

'Tom is a former player and juvenile coach with the club, so he is well known within the club and he is also the holder of a UEFA A coaching licence.

French said: 'I am really looking forward to the challenge, even though it has come as a bit of a surprise to me.

'I am looking forward to getting started and taking over from the good platform that Johnny has left for me to work on.

'I will also be looking to improve the squad and build on last season's finish in the First Division.'
