Connor vacates manager's post at Dundalk

Sean Connor has vacated his post as manager at Dundalk less than 24 hours after the season-ending fixture with Derry City.

According to a statement on the Dundalk official website, Connor 'informed the board that he has a number of other options open to him, and rather then both parties hanging on, Sean has decided to take time out before pursuing these other options.'
Connor stated: 'I would like to have been able to build on the foundation stones that were laid here but believe that it in the best interest of both parties to part on an amicable basis.

'Dundalk is a club with a fervent support base and has enormous potential. As with my previous clubs, I am content that I leave the club in a stronger position then when I joined.

'I want to thank all the players, the staff and the supporters for their commitment and tenacity over the course of the season, as I look forward to my next challenge with continued enthusiasm and confidence.'

Dundalk CEO Gerry Matthews said: 'The football club are eager to acknowledge the achievement of the fifth place league finish and to commend the manager for the significant part he has played in securing the stated goal of consolidation in the Premier Division. We wish Sean every success in his future career in football.'
