Bray Wanderers 0-1 Derry City

Derry City put their off-the-field financial problems behind them to climb above Cork City to third in the Premier Division thanks to Gareth McGlynn's 90th-minute header.

Facing only 25% of their wages as part of a planned cut to help ease the club's financial problems, Stephen Kenny's men claimed a third top-flight win in a row to end their recent hoodoo by the seaside.

As the game headed into the 90th minute, it had looked like Bray would keep their first league clean sheet at the Carlisle Grounds since the opening day of the season before Gary McCabe gave away a needless free in the City half.

The long dead-ball led to a bout of head tennis, which was flicked on by Ciaran Martyn and McGlynn nodded his fourth league goal of the campaign from close range past an inspired Chris O'Connor.

They almost added a second in stoppage time when Tam McManus clipped the bar with a placed 22-yard effort.

A sustained period of pressure which yielded six corners in the space of 90 seconds for the visitors almost produced the opening score.

From the second of which, in the eighth minute, Tam McManus was left unmarked at the back post from James McClean's delivery but Chris O'Connor made a fine parried save.

The rebound fell to Ciaran Martyn whose effort was charged down. Then McClean pounced on the loose ball but O'Connor pushed it around his upright.

It took until the half hour mark for the Wicklow side to create their first chance. Gary McCabe broke on the right wing and fed Gareth Coughlan.

His clever back-heel took him inside Peter Hutton. But the winger's 20-yard curler was just wide of the far post.

But they had two major let-offs soon after. In the 33rd minute, Martyn teed up Eddie McCallion, whose dipping 25-yard half-volley crashed off the bar and bounced down before the line.

McManus was first to react but saw his follow-up header somehow grabbed by a diving O'Connor.

Just 40 seconds later, Mark Farren saw his initial right footed
drive blocked. But the striker then hit a left footed 20-yard shot that cannoned off the cross-bar.

After their 2-2 draw with Sligo, Bray made three changes to their
starting line-up. With Daire Doyle and Dave Mulcahy banned and current Irish Schools player of the year John Mulroy injured.

As for the Candystripes, they made four changes from the team who defeated St Pat's 1-0.

In the second half, Farren's tame header was easily claimed by
O'Connor in the 54th minute.

The visitors went close again in the 65th minute.

From Ruairdhi Higgins' corner, Martyn flicked on but McManus blasted over inside a crowded area.

Derry continued to press and only a reflex save ten minutes later by O'Connor to push Webster's touch off McClean's cross around his post kept the sides level.

But it was Derry who secured the points by snatching victory at the death.
