Doyle is doubtful for Bulgaria trip

Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle is said to be 'less than optimistic' that he will be fit to play in next month's World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria in Sofia.

Doyle injured his Achilles tendon playing for Reading on Saturday, and will have an MRI scan today to determine what damage has been done.

Giovanni Trapattoni's men travel to Bulgaria on 6 June and the Wexford native now faces a battle to regain his fitness.

He is definitely ruled out of the Royals' Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Burnley, whom they trail 1-0 following Graham Alexander's penalty six minutes from time.
