Bohemians 0-1 Cork City

Davin O'Neill's first goal for Cork City secured all three points for Cork City at Dalymount Park. The ex-Cobh Ramblers man netted after 52 minutes having been teed up by Denis Behan on the right.

Bohs enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages of an entertaining tie, but were kept at bay by a game City defence.

Jason McGuinness's header on three minutes went over, taking a deflection off Dan Murray. Some further good early work from Murray, Danny Murphy and Greg O'Halloran ensured Bohs didn't capitalise on their dominance.

City were well aware of the Bohs threat, and this was made clear on the 20 minute mark when McGuinness was crowded out of a challenge for a cross by three City defenders.

City though weren't such a threat in the final third of the pitch, and when Colin Healy got in a good position on 25 minutes he crossed his ball to the far corner but there was no team mate there to take the advantage.

Glen Crowe did find the back of the City net on 32 minutes, but his shot was ruled out because Anto Murphy's cross had swung over the byline as it entered the box.

Behan saw a shot for City blocked on 40, and the Cork side should have done better on 43 when Guntars Silagailis broke free down the Connaught Street side and sent in a low cross, but Brian Shelley snuck in and put the ball into touch before Behan or O'Neill could make a connection.

City came out fighting for the second period and took the lead on 52 minutes. Behan collected the ball on the right and squared it into the box where O'Neill struck to claim the lead for the visitors and snatch his first goal for City.

Bohs boss Pat Fenlon reacted by introducing Jason Byrne for Anto Murphy while City then lost Denis Behan to a suspected hamstring injury.

Joseph Ndo, who had a quite night by his standards, put an inviting cross in the area for Bohs on 69 but Murray tidied up.

Bohs threw everything at City after that but couldn't find an equaliser, one of their best efforts being a Byrne volley from a corner on 90 minutes that went wide. He also then sent a header wide in the final minute of added time.
